First thoughts (Welcome Nikki M)

What does “grilling” mean to me? This is my first post, and having read this blog for a while, I can see some divergences in my approach from those of my fellow contributors. I’m Australian, and although I’m not claiming the whole country cooks like I do, I’ve certainly grown up with a particular notion […]

Barbeque - a central part of life in Australia, where I grew up and still live. It's fair to say that the barbeque is an entrenched part of the kitchen facilities in my family home. I've always been involved in barbequeing: from the tiny portable coal grill we started with, to the six-burner gas beauty that has been serving us well for years now. When we made the big investment in the current barbeque, it became 'my kitchen', because my father was too lazy to look after it properly - and my love of grilling began! As a uni student over the past few years, my love of cooking generally has grown, and now I spend as much time in the 'inside' kitchen as at the grill, and my father has finally been allowed to take over grill supervision duties. But now I have more control over the produce, marinades and accompaniments, which I consider just as important as the grilling itself, if not more so. This is my first foray into the world of online food punditry - I'm finally finding the time to venture beyond the discussions and debates that regularly flow around the family dinner table. Look for an update when I get my own food blog going - hopefully soon!
