Hey, since this was a product review and considering new grilling people it is pretty spot on but may I add that if you will be new to grilling then buy your grill at the end of the summer season. You will get a much better deal and discount. I had this grill about 8 years ago and when I found it for 28.99 I couldn't pass up the opportunity (even though I already had 2 grills). It is great and in terms of the heat if you know and love grilling then you can judge your meat by experience and it is a good way for new grillers to learn temptress differences when working with charcoal or wood chips!

Chuck - good comments on this product. Brinkman certainly puts out some value-priced products. The main sponsor of my weekly newsletter "Sizzle on the Grill" is Char-Broil - and I would be remiss if I didn't ask you to take a look at their smokers as well. Give me a holler sometime and we'll talk about it! - CB

This smoker USED to have the temperatures on the dial, but the manufacturer changes it to that "low, ideal, hot" setting a few years ago.

I always thought that was a ridiculous change for the reason you mentioned when you did your temperature test.

I've no idea why they changed it, and IIRC, they may have a replacement dial that you can buy to pop in in place of the pretty much useless one they send with the smoker.
