Big Green Egg Table

I’ve been mentioning the new Big Green Egg in my posts recently, but I’ve not done a story on it yet. The weekend before Christmas, we visited a hardware store going out of business. They had a new, large Egg priced as a medium, AND 30% off. It worked out that I got a large for half price. Merry Christmas, eh? The hardware store was six hours away from home as we were visiting my family for Christmas in NorthWest Iowa. We found room in the back of the Chrysler Pacifica and it made the long journey home on Christmas Eve.

Christmas 066 [Wordpress].JPGBefore the first cook, I wanted to build a table for the Big Green Egg to sit in. The weekend before New Year’s, I went to work and built a very solid table made of red oak. The design was inspired from many I’ve seen on the Naked Whiz site.

Nearly Done

With the table finished, it was moved to the deck. The Big Green Egg was placed with care. Everything fit, and the table was square. It was probably the best built project of significant size that I’ve done. I added bronze electrical plates to the front and top of the table. The top plate is for a magnetic BBQ light. The plate on the front is for a magnetic thermometer probe transmitter. Ideas that came from looking at tables on the Naked Whiz site.

And one final attachment that is standard on any serious Egger’s table:

Bottle Opener

To cover the table when not in use, I purchased a $6 plastic, camo tarp. I added snaps to the tarp and to the table. An 8′ x 10′ tarp ended up being the perfect size.

Hey Todd,
I cam across your site doing a search for Big Green Egg and related parts etc. I picked up a used Medium before Christmas and have refurbished it and enjoy it but have toyed with the idea of building a table like you did. I like your design and the addition of the Electrical covers is pure genius. I have a light that looks the same as the one you have pictured. Your table looks excellent and I hope to get started on one of my own soon “stealing” your ideas. Good job.
Happy Grilling.
