The Big Easy is “Super Easy”
This Thanksgiving went extra smooth thanks to Charbroil’s Big Easy. It took just a few minutes to set up and then it was off to the porch to cook the Thanksgiving Beast. I rubbed it down with some herbs and seasoning, my own special blend, and then injected into the breasts and thighs some garlic and herb marinade to liven up the taste buds. I placed the bird as suggested with the breast side up and fired up the igniter and it lit with one turn of the knob.

It was a bit windy that day but the double walled insulated burner system stood up to the challenge. Only once, when the gusts were extremely heavy, did the Big Easy burner system blow out. Since the family was fascinated and I was watching it ever so close it was a snap to relight and we were back in business. I didn’t baste the bird but I did take the grill top off and on at different times to offset too much browning.
It took approximately 10 minutes per pound and the 17 pound took a little over 2 1/2 hours to cook. As a test I also cooked a turkey breast in a Convection oven to compare them side by side and in the end the Big Easy won by a landslide. The skin was nice and crisp and the meat cooked to perfection. The Convection oven, on the other hand, did an adequate job of getting the bird to temp, but the skin didn’t have the crispness nor did the meat remain moist.
Needless to say after it was all said and done, the turkey from the Big Easy was a hit and fed close to 25 people. After allowing it to cool, I removed the basket and inner walled steel cylinder and took them to the kitchen for cleanup. The total cleanup time took about 10 minutes and the grill parts went right back into the Big Easy for storage until the next family gathering.
If you want to a Fried Turkey for Christmas and don’t want the hazards of an oil fryer, then you need to get the Big Easy. It’s a simple one step operation once you set it up and your taste buds will thank you!
