Ever Take a Cooking Class?

diction.jpgNext week, I’m going to be cooking in front of a group of people, along with my barbecue teammate, Mark (we make up the Bucky McOinkum’s Barbecue competition team). What’s the reason? We’re holding a cooking class!

So you hop around the Internet looking at food blogs all day. Maybe you learn from them, maybe you don’t. Maybe you try new dishes that turn out great, maybe you burn water. One way to get to know more, even if you’re pretty good at stuff, is to take a good cooking class.

For $50, the class of up to 24 get to not only get some recipes, but to see each of the recipes made. Honestly, I don’t do anything in a class that I don’t know I make really well, so the class isn’t getting anything 2nd rate. Along with getting to actually see the process and ask questions, the people lucky enough to be in the class also get to sample everything made. If things go well, there may even be some hands on.

So what are we making for the class?

  • Wood Fired Smoked Duck Pizza
  • Cedar Planked Scallops with Rosemary
  • Brined Pork Chops with Gianfrancos Renetta sauce
  • Roasted Broccoflower
  • Grilled Cinnamon Peaches with Dulce de Leche

All this, done on the grill, with samples of everything! Depending on weather, the class will get the opportunity to make their own pizzas, or at least top their own pizzas to put on the smoker.

So why take a class when you can read all the great info on this and other sites? Eating samples is one reason. Another is that you get to interact much more with the instructors, asking questions as they come to you, not just via posts. I recommend that everyone that’s into food find a good class and enjoy it!
