Cooking with Jack: MoJack Flank Steak

Jack Daniel's Old No 7

This weekend I took a road trip from Kansas City to Lynchburg, Tennessee with my brother in law and cooking parter, Randy. Lynchburg is the infamous home of the Jack Daniel’s distillery. I picked up a great cookbook called Cooking with Jack. As my wife thumbed through it, she kept exclaiming, “I want to try that.” and “That sounds good.” Here’s one that caught my eye. MoJack is play on Mojo which is a classic Mexican style marinade.

MoJack Flank Steak

  • 1/4 C Veg Oil
  • 4 Cloves Garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 C Jack Daniel’s Whiskey
  • 1/2 C Orange Juice
  • 1/2 C Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 t Ground Cumin
  • 1/2 C Soy Sauce
  • 2 Flank Steaks - 2 lb each

Combine ingredients in a bag with steaks. Marinade between 1 hour and overnight. Steaks are to be direct grilled over high heat for 5-7 minutes per side or medium rare. Slice thin across the grain and serve with tortillas and fixins. Makes about 8 servings.
